The Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC) has said 20% of the Maldivian population will receive the free Covid vaccine.
Speaking at the recent press conference by the HEOC, Dr. Nazla said that Maldives is included in the advance market commitment group in the COVAX, hence the 20% of the Maldivian population will receive the free Covid vaccine under the COVAX program.
Dr. Nazla assured that the HEOC will be working to get a vaccine for the rest of the 80% of the population. She also said that discussions have been ongoing with ADB and the World Bank to get support to buy the vaccine, for which WHO and UNICEF have already vouched to provide support as well.
WHO has already stated that a vaccine is required to fully recover from the Covid-19 pandemic.
