UNGA President Abdulla Shahid and the President of Guatemala Alejandro Giammattei
The UN General Assembly President and the Foreign Minister of the Maldives, Abdulla Shahid have been awarded the Grand cross of the Orden de Antonio Jose de Irisarri, by the Government of Guatemala.

The honor was conferred at a special ceremony in the Guatemalan capital. The President of Guatemala issued a special resolution to confer the honor.

The award was presented to Shahid in recognition of his services in the foreign service and his work as the President of the UN General Assembly.

As part of the "Presidency of Hope", Shahid's efforts include rapid recovery from the crisis, sustainable reconstruction, protection of human rights, gender equality and youth development, and addressing environmental issues. The second reason for the honor was the appreciation of the many efforts Shahid is making to strengthen the UN agency further.

The Order of Order of Antonio José de Irisarri has been awarded to dignitaries who have made outstanding contributions to foreign service at the international level.

It was named in honor of the statesman and writer Antonio José de Irisarri, one of Guatemala's most prominent political leaders.

Shahid arrived in Guatemala on Wednesday, July 13. During the visit, he met with the President, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, other Cabinet Ministers, the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, the President of the Constitutional Court, and the Chief Justice.
