Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Abdulla Shahid announced on Friday night that there are no restrictions for the Maldives to import fish from the Maldives.
The announcement after Minister Shahid’s discussion with Sri Lankan Foreign Minister, Dinesh Gunawardena, Minister of Fisheries Douglas Devananda, and MP & State Minister of Finance Ajith Nivard Cabraal.
The discussion has come after the statement by the President of Sri Lanka, Gotabaya Rajapaksa, which said that Sri Lanka might have to stop importing fish from other foreign countries while on the verge of recovering the economy of Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile, Maldives has continued to import Fish from the Maldives to Sri Lanka.
Following the statement by the President of Sri Lanka, Maldives Fisheries Minister, Ms. Zaha Waheed, has said that importing restrictions from Sri Lanka will not be affecting the economy of Maldives and assured that the Maldives will look into exporting fish for expensive markets.
