As per the president's office, the President of the Maldives, HE Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, is set to speak to the public on the occasion of the Maldives National day.
HE Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will speak to the public through the local media at 10 am.
Maldives national day is observed to celebrate the victory of Muhammad Thakurufaanu Al Auzam over the Portuguese occupation in the year 1573. According to the Islamic calendar, the National Day of Maldives falls on the 1st of Rabee ul Awwal.
In celebration of the National day, Maldives holds the National Award of Honour ceremony, but due to Covid-19 pandemic, the ceremony for the year 2020 is postponed till post-pandemic.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs has also postponed the usual activities in celebration of the National day.
