The Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure has announced that the development of the first pillar of the Thilamale’ Bridge, which connects; Male’, Villimale’, Thilafushi, and Gulhi falhu, will start next week.
The Planning Ministry told state media that this is the first of the main pillars of the bridge. The final geotechnical survey of the remaining areas will be conducted along with the work of the pillar, said the ministry.
The bridge is being constructed by AFCONs Infrastructure Ltd. of India. State Trading Organisation (STO) is supplying concrete for the bridge.
The first section of the bridge will be completed by December, and the bridge is expected to be completed by July next year.
The length of the Thilamale’ Bridge is 6.7 km. The project includes bridges and linking roads. The entire project will cost about $500 million.
