Ali Shahil, arrested in connection with the brutal murder of a woman in the city, has not yet pleaded guilty, police said.

The 23-year-old Shiau Mohamed Saeed (Shiaa) was brutally murdered in H. Sheerinvilla last night. Police arrested Ali Shahil (Finifenmaage, F. Nilandhoo) from the crime scene in connection with the case. The Criminal Court today ordered Ali Shahil to remain in custody pending trial.

Speaking at a press conference concerning the case, the Head of the Serious and Organized Crime Department, Chief Superintendent of Police Hassan Shifau said that at the moment, only Shahil is accused of the murder. However, Shahil has not pleaded guilty so far, and the motive for the murder is still difficult to determine.

Police also said Shahil tested positive for drugs after a provisional test, and that he does not have a criminal record at the police station. However, the investigation into the case has revealed that he is involved in domestic violence cases.

Police revealed that a post-mortem will be conducted on Shiaa to determine the cause of death.

The investigation is ongoing, and police are still on the scene to gather evidence in the case, said Shifau.
