President of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives, Abdullah Shahid have been awarded the National Order of Merit of the Gabonese Republic.
Minister Shahid was honored by President Ali Bongo Ondimba at a special ceremony held in Libreville today.
The award, introduced in 1971, was previously awarded to Saudi billionaire Al Waleed bin Talal Al Saud and Barcelona's Gabonese striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Minister Shahid is currently in Gabon. on an official visit as President of the UN General Assembly.
