There is no refusal to ask a public opinion on changing the government system, says former President and the current ruling party, MDP President, Mohamed Nasheed.
President Mohamed Nasheed has moved a resolution to the MDP congress to hold a vote to change the system of government. While, President Solih has requested to withdraw the resolution, in a tweet today, Nasheed emphasized on the importance of collecting public opinion via a secret ballot.
Nasheed said that the public should be able to choose what is beneficial for everyone, hence a public vote can decide on changing the government. He also added that the majority of MDP members also want to go for a vote on the matter.
"Many MDP members want such a vote on changing the system of government. No one can deny asking the people," he said in his tweet.
Meanwhile, President Solih has said that he does not support the resolution submitted to the MDP Congress. The President said he did not support the parliamentary system and did not believe there was a problem with the current system of government.
In addition, ruling party coalition leaders; JP leader Qasim Ibrahim, and Adalat Party leader Imran Abdullah, and former President Maumoon have also announced their support for the current government system.
