The Ministry of Islamic Affairs denied asking the imams of mosques to silence the sound of prayers.

The Islamic Ministry said in a statement that it has not asked anyone to silence the sound of prayers. The ministry does not intend to silence the sound of prayers in mosques, read the statement.

However, following complaints of loudness, the ministry has instructed the imams of five mosques in the city to reduce the noise level during Jahriyya prayers as it appears to be in the best religious interest, said the ministry.

The Islamic Ministry said some mosques are located nearby and the sound of prayers from one mosque to another is loud and it is difficult to pray. The ministry also noted challenges faced by the households with infants nearby mosques.

The statement further denied sending a circular to anyone and untrue stories spreading in the media regarding the silencing of mosques.
