Vice President Faisal Naseem on Thursday morning met with Singapore’s Minister for Social and Family Development, Mr. Masagos Zulkifli. The Vice President is currently in Singapore on an unofficial visit.

During the meeting, the Vice President stated that over the course of the partnership, the two countries had a number of high-level visits during which several Memorandums of Understanding were signed that were mutually beneficial. He said that Singapore continues to play an important role in the development of the Maldives and that the Maldivian government looks forward to cooperating in a variety of areas, including defense, social development, economic development, telecommunications, and youth empowerment.

The Vice President also spoke about education, and the significance of early childhood development and discussed receiving technical assistance on the topics discussed.

The Vice President and Singapore’s Minister for Social and Family Development also discussed mutual interests such as international cooperation and increasing people-to-people contact. They expressed hope of working together to further strengthen the Maldives-Singapore relations.

Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Singapore were established on February 20, 1975.
