Maldives's first space mission has been named Azum.

Maldives's first space mission is a joint venture between the institute for Global Success, IGS and Housing Development Corporation, HDC.

The HDC said 85 people had submitted name nominations for the space mission in July. Among the proposed names, Maldives first space mission will be named Azum. The name was submitted by Saudullah Idris.

The space mission aims to build and test Maldives's first prototype satellite. This is an experimental satellite to collect data needed to detect global warming and climate change. The satellite will be built, tested and launched by a local young team.
