Maldives aims to open an embassy in the United States by the end of this year, says the Foreign Minister Abdullah Shahid.
Speaking at an event in New York, Foreign Minister Abdullah Shahid said the aim is to open an embassy in the United States before the end of this year or early next year. They are working to find a location to open an embassy in Washington, he said. Minister Shahid said the opening of a Maldivian embassy in the United States would be a historic decision.
While the preparations are underway to open an embassy in the United States, United States has also decided appoint an ambassador to the Maldives as well.
Meanwhile, Abdullah Ghafoor Mohammed was appointed as the ambassador from the Maldives to the United States last week.
