Member of Parliament for Hulhumale' constituency Ali Niyaz has stated that even though the system has flaws in need of improvement, the people support decentralization.

Niyaz said this during the debate in the Parliament regarding the state budget.

Niyaz stated that when the budget was projected for the next year, things to improve decentralization were included. And as such, it includes things to be noted before allocating budgets to councils. He added that based on the activity of the councils, there is the chance of increasing the budget.

Niyaz stated that it is important to factor in how the councils act in financial matters.

Niyaz said that most of the citizens of Maldives see that councils are run well with the power afforded to them by the amendments to the decentralization laws. He added that there are many things to improve and that what is in the law should be explained properly to the people.
