Deputy minister of the Transport Ministry under former President Maumoon's MRM's slot, Shimaaz Ali has stated that the attack on him has politicians behind it.

Shimaaz was attacked on the 18th of this month, at about 9:30 pm when he got on his motorcycle. Shimaaz has stated that two people came and held him and beat him barehanded on multiple parts of the body.

Regarding this attack, Shimaaz has stated that it was a cowardly action with politicians behind it. And that he was threatened in different ways before the attack.

"I urge the Maldives Police Service to investigate this case as soon as possible and find the attackers and the people behind the attack and bring justice," said Shimaaz.

Recently news media reported that Transport Minister Aishath Nahula had sent a letter to the President's Office asking for the removal of Shimaaz from his position in regards to the corruption within the Transport Ministry. But Nahula has denied this.

In a tweet regarding the attack, Nahula has stated that she has no relation whatsover to the attack and she condemned the attack.

Both Nahula's Jumhooree Party and MRM have released statements condemning the attack.
