The host nation of World Cup 2022, Qatar loses to Ecuador in the first match, breaking a 92-year-old record.

The host country has never lost its first match in the 92-year history of the World Cup. However, Ecuador broke the 92-year-old World Cup record with a 2-0 defeat in Qatar today.

In the previous 22 World Cups, 16 teams have won their first 22 matches played by the host nation. Six matches have been drawn. However, the host country has never lost its first match. Qatar, who prepared for the World Cup with high hopes, have faced a difficult start.

Ecuador captain Valencia scored both goals in the first half of the match. One of the goals came from a penalty.

World Cup matches will see England vs Iran, Senegal vs Netherlands and the United States vs Wales, on the second day of the tournament.
