The Parliament today rejected a motion submitted by Mohamed Ibrahim (Kudu), MP for the North Galolhu Constituency, which alleged that key state institutions are failing to meet their obligations towards people with disabilities.

Kudu’s motion raised concerns about the lack of financial aid, medical care, and specialized services for children with disabilities. He singled out the National Social Protection Agency (NSPAR) and other relevant agencies, accusing them of neglecting their responsibilities under the law.

He highlighted the high costs of therapy, long waiting lists, and the shortage of qualified therapists in the country. Kudu also pointed out that essential medication and equipment for autistic children are not available in the Maldives.

Calling for urgent attention, Kudu urged the Parliament to identify existing challenges and take concrete steps to address them.

Despite his appeal, the motion failed to pass, with only 12 MPs voting in favor and 44 voting against.
