A senior delegation from TikTok met with the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade on Monday to explore potential collaboration aimed at creating digital income opportunities for Maldivians.

The meeting focused on opening up new avenues for digital monetization through TikTok, one of the world’s most widely used social media platforms. According to the Ministry, the discussions align with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s key pledge to build a thriving creative economy.

The government is now working to secure TikTok's cooperation in supporting local content creators, artists, and entrepreneurs to earn revenue through the platform.

Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed has previously highlighted the importance of leveraging platforms like TikTok and YouTube to create income opportunities for local talent. “We have incredibly talented creators, musicians, and small business owners in the Maldives. One of our goals is to help them access international platforms for income generation,” the Minister said.

The visit signals growing interest in integrating global digital platforms with the Maldivian economy to support innovation and youth entrepreneurship.
