The Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) between the Maldives and Turkey will come into force within the next two months, Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed has announced.

The agreement, signed on November 4 last year, is awaiting final legislative approval in Turkey. Speaking on state media, Saeed said the PTA will serve as a gateway for Maldivian products to enter the European market, giving local exporters access to a market of 90 million people.

According to the ministry, the deal will ease trade barriers, boost bilateral trade, and provide significant benefits for Maldivian fish exporters. It will also allow Maldivian businesses and consumers to purchase Turkish goods at lower prices, further strengthening economic ties between the two nations.
