Ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) Parliamentary Group Leader Ibrahim Falah has reaffirmed the Maldives’ unwavering support for Palestine, stating that the country will stand with the Palestinian people even in times of facing hardship.
Speaking during Monday’s parliamentary debate on the ban on Israeli passport holders, Falah said that previous efforts by the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) had not directly aimed to ban Israeli passports. He noted that the MDP only later proposed an amendment to the Immigration Act after earlier attempts fell short.
Falah said the current administration, under President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, had taken a bold step by showing a firm commitment to the Palestinian cause, initiating and backing legislation that imposes a direct ban on Israeli passport holders. He added that this decision reflects the government’s dedication to defending the Islamic faith and standing with oppressed Muslim communities.
On Monday, Parliament passed the amendment to the Immigration Act, banning Israeli passport holders from entering the Maldives until the violence and alleged genocide against Palestinians comes to an end.
