Dhaandhoo MP Yaugoob Abdulla has stated that the opposition in the Parliament is advocating to lower the wages of government employees.

Speaking in the debate on the budget in the Parliament, Yaugoob said that the opposition is talking the most about the size of the state's recurrent expenditure. But a large part of the recurrent expenditure is salaries.

Yaugoob said that even if tomorrow PPM got the presidency, the salaries of state employees would be cut.

"Opposition members are calling to cut the salaries of employees. What the government employees should know is that even if tomorrow PPM comes to power, they are saying directly or indirectly that they will lower their salaries," said Yaugoob.

Yaugoob said that if the salaries of the education sector were raised, the salaries of the health sector would be raised too. And that this is something done for the good of the people and the recurrent expenses getting increased because of this is not an issue.

Yaugoob stated that while the opposition speaks of a debt, PPM had gotten into MVR 39 billion in debt while the country was in a good economic state. And that it was MVR 21 million daily. It should be noted that currently due to global conditions, the economic state is not well.

MP Yaugoob said that the work done by some people behind the curtains while saying state expenditure should be lowered is in fact an act to raise it.
