Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) requested the Prosecutor General (PG) office to review the corruption case of ventilators procurement, which was dismissed by the PG office.

The PG office has dismissed pressing charges against the corruption case of ventilators procurement for lack of evidence.

Upon investigation, the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has requested the PG Office to press charges for 11 people including, the former Health Minister Ameeen, on the 75 ventilators procured through a Dubai company against the financial law and procedures. This request was sent on the 14th of October from ACC to the PG office.

As per the investigation of ACC, the Health Ministry has paid 90 percent of the total payment to the Dubai company as an advance, without obtaining an advance guarantee or a performance guarantee. ACC requested the PG Office to press charges for 11 people on the corruption and fraud in connection with the 75 ventilators procured through a Dubai company, against the financial law and procedures.

However, the Prosecutor General, Hussain Shameem, has announced the decision to decline to press charges against the Health Ministry, with a lack of evidence.

Following the PG’s decision, a no-confidence motion was submitted against former Health Minister Abdulla Ameen to the Parliament. But before it could have continued, Mr. Abdulla Ameen resigned from his designation of the Minister of Health.
