Spokesperson of the President's Office Miuvaan Mohamed has stated that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will be paying on his own for his trip to Qatar to spectate a FIFA World Cup match, which he was invited to by Qatar.
The President was invited by the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Previously the President's Office had announced that the President would travel to Qatar accepting this invitation.
A lot of people had criticized this decision, noting the bad economic state the country is currently in. However, the Spokesperson of the President dispelled the false assumptions by stating that the President will be traveling on his own money, and the stay and food will be handled by the Qatar government.
The President's Office has not yet revealed the date of the President's departure though the Spokesperson had revealed before that the President would be leaving to spectate either a semi-final or final match.
