Tourism Minister Dr. Abdulla Mausoom has stated by the end of the year, great numbers will be seen from the tourism industry.

Speaking on Raajje' TV, Mausoom said that this year was a year in which a lot of obstacles were faced in the tourism industry. But within this December, the targeted goal of this year will be achieved according to Mausoom.

Mausoom said that compared to 2019 the amount of tourists visiting the country is 2.3% lower and that depending on the changes that will come after the end of the ongoing FIFA World Cup, there is hope of improvement. He said that there is great hope that the year will end with great numbers.

According to the latest statistics, til December 3, 1.5 million tourists have visited Maldives this year.

Compared to the 1.1 million that visited by the same time last year, this is a 28.7% increase. However, compared to the pre-COVID amount, this is 2.5% lower.

Out of the 1.5 million tourists who have visited, 14.1% is from India which is the largest contributor. The second most tourists came from Russia.
