Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail has stated that the fisheries projects being carried out by the government to promote the fisheries industry are progressing according to the government's plan.

The Minister said this at a meeting between government officials and fishermen as part of Fishermen’s Day celebrations in Gdh. Faresmaathodaa.

During the meeting, Fayyaz said that MIFCO needs a capacity of 12,000 metric tonnes to solve the difficulties in weighing fish. And that the capacity will be increased with the planned projects.

Fayyaz noted that a lot of work is being done to develop the fisheries industry and said that increasing the capacity of MIFCO is a priority.

“We worked to increase the capacity to 4000 tonnes in Felivaru and 6000 tonnes in Kooddoo. Work is underway to increase the capacity to 1000 tonnes in Thinadhoo, 500 tonnes in Mulah and 500 or 1000 tonnes in the Ihavandhoo area. When this work is done, the issue will be resolved,” said Fayyaz.

Fayyaz said the fisheries projects are progressing according to the government's plan but the work will take time.
