The Japanese government has provided 700 million Japanese Yen (Approximately USD 5.1 million) in aid to the Maldives.
The Exchange of Notes was signed on behalf of the Maldives by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel, and on behalf of Japan, by the State Minister for Foreign Affairs and Member of the House of Representatives, Takei Shunsuke. The ceremony was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Maldives.
This grant aid will be utilized to enhance sustainable waste management capabilities in the Maldives. This includes the provision of waste management equipment, including vehicles for the islands.
While speaking at the ceremony State Minister Khaleel highlighted the generosity of the Japanese Government, thanked the Government of Japan for the grant aid, and emphasized the close and friendly relations that exist between the two countries. He further mentioned that such projects reflect Japan’s continued role as one of the key partners in the Maldives’ development journey.
The signing ceremony was attended by the Minister of State for Environment, Climate Change and Technology Khadeeja Naseem, the Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives Takeuchi Midori, and senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Technology and Ministry of Finance, as well as the Embassy of Japan.
