The Government of the Maldives in a statement has strongly condemned the incitement of arson and terrorism targeted at the High Commission of India in Maldives.

The statement from the Foreign Ministry comes amid a tweet from the opposition PPM member Abbas Adil Riza, who talks about taking revenge for the 2012 arson attack on government offices in Addu City, starting from the High Commission of India in Maldives. He alleged that arson was committed during the unrest by members of MDP on February 8, 2012, after then-President Mohamed Nasheed’s government was overthrown.

The Government of the Maldives said that it is investigating this threat very seriously and all necessary precautionary measures have been taken by the authorities.

“Such threats of malicious intent aimed at undermining the security of the diplomatic corps and disrupting public safety will not be tolerated,” the statement read.

Following the tweet from Abbas Adil Riza, political parties including MDP, MTD and former President Maumoon’s MRM have also condemned the incitement of an arson attack on the Indian High Commission.
