Finance Minister Ibrahim Amir has been asked by Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, MP for North Galolhu constiuency Eva Abdullah to obtain a copy of the IMF report on the Maldives financial situation.
In a letter addressed to the Minister Ameer, Eva said that in a press release by IMF, issued on December 20, states that a team of the IMF had visited the Maldives and prepared a report on the country's economic growth and financial information, highlighting to prioritise sustained fiscal consolidation.
However, since such reports are published with the approval of the government of the country, a copy of the report is required to determine the original content, said Eva in her letter.
Meanwhile, the government reassures that the economy is growing rapidly. Minister Ameer also stated yesterday said the economy has now returned to pre-COVID-19 condition, amid criticism over the increase in GST with the start of the new year.
