Economist Mohamed Naseem (Nafa Naseem) has stated that the talks about the high debt of the government of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is political deception.
Nafa Naseem, who was a senior member of MDP, said this referring to some people saying the current government's debt is higher than that of previous governments and that the government of President Solih has created a debt of MVR 49.8 billion.
Nafa Naseem said these talks were political deception and that only speaking about debt would confuse people.
"Only when you know the duration of rule, the situation, and how the money taken in loans were used, will you understand what it means," said Naseem, who was also a member of the Special Majlis.
Finance Minister Ibrahim Ameer had stated that the government's debt had increased due to the pandemic, which had a huge effect on the global economy.
