Minister of Gender, Family and Social Services Aishath Mohamed Didi announced a review of the entire social protection scheme of the Maldives.
Minister Aishath Didi announced reviewing the social protection scheme during her speech at the third cycle of the Maldives’ Universal Periodic Review (UPR) commenced today during the 36th Session of the UPR Working Group.
Minister Aishath Didi stated that the objective to review the entire social protection scheme is to assess the sufficiency of allowances and assistance given to persons with disabilities and others at risk.
Minister also assured that along with the challenges faced, the government continues to work for the rights of children, rights of people with disabilities, rights for women, and rights of the elderly.
In her speech, she also added that the Maldives is committed to reducing gender disparity at key decision-making levels of the State, and the President’s appointment of the first female Justices to the Supreme Court of Maldives is a testament to the commitment.
