The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has stated that contact tracing and community survey conducted in Addu City, after a child got positive for measles last week, have not shown any further cases of measles.

HPA said in a statement today that 65 people have been identified as contacts of the case. However, none of them showed symptoms of the disease and the positive person and their contacts have now been vaccinated.

The Addu Equatorial Hospital has also conducted a community survey of people living in the area where the case was found. HPA said that the survey covered 16 households and shops and collected information from a total of 41 people. And that the survey revealed 19 people who had no record of vaccination. These people have now been vaccinated. However, this does not include children.

The main symptoms of measles are a fever and red spots on the skin. In addition, some symptoms such as coughing, runny nose and red eyes may also occur. Therefore, if you notice such symptoms, HPA says to seek the advice of a health worker immediately.

In 2017, the WHO announced that Maldives had eradicated measles.
