Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Decentralization and Hulhumale' MP Ali Niyaz has stated that some people, after saying the government is not implementing MDP policies, are allying themselves with those who are the most opposed to the policies of MDP.
While MP Niyaz has said this, MDP President Nasheed's "Fikurehge Dhirun" (roughly translating to "Life of an Ideology", implying the continued survival of the MDP ideology) faction has been having talks with Jumhooree Party. However, no official decision has been made so far between them.
Regarding this, Niyaz said that since they are allying themselves with those who oppose MDP policies the most, such decisions cannot be considered as political decisions.
After losing the MDP presidential primary to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, former President Mohamed Nasheed has formed a separate faction within the party called "Fikurehge Dhirun".
Observing the current scenario, many people involved with politics are saying that even if the MDP candidate contests this year's presidential election, MDP President Mohamed Nasheed will support the JP presidential candidate Qasim Ibrahim.
