Parliament Member Imthiyaz Fahmy states that the Maldives Police service has to officially apologize to give assurance on not to repeat a coup against any government.

Statement by MP Imthiyaz Fahmy comes in a tweet following the assurance given by the Commissioner of Police on the current Police officers, and future Police officers will not stand up against any government with the lessons learned from the past.

MP Imthiyaz Fahmy reflects the assurance given by the Police Commissioner positively but continued to state that for further reassurance, Police Service has to apologize for the people of the Maldives under the truth and reconciliation policy.

Following the statement by the Commissioner of Police, Speaker of the Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed has stated that it is not a guarantee that the Police and Army will not stand up against the government creating a coup. Mohamed Nasheed said that to be sure that Police officers and Army officers do not repeat a coup, they have to follow the steps mentioned in the CONI report.

Nasheed said, “As long as the steps in the CONI report is not followed, I cannot be sure that another coup, will not be repeated”
