Home Minister Sheikh Imran Abdulla has stated that the information received by Dhiraagu and Ooredoo through the prison antenna is not given to the police.

Replying to a question by Central Maafannu MP Ibrahim Rasheed regarding actions taken to stop scam phone calls made from prison, the Minister said an antenna has been installed in the prison area this year to prevent various crimes committed by prisoners using mobile phones.

However, since the information received from the antenna is stored on the servers of the network operators, the Minister said the information has to be accessed through Dhiraagu and Ooredoo. Imran said the police was not getting their cooperation. Therefore, Imran stressed the importance of a law requiring the provision of such information.

"Since they are not providing complete information on call records to the Police and since the information provided is in different formats, this creates a lot of challenges," said Home Minister Imran.

Imran said 10 IPs and 12 websites used in prison have been blocked so far. In addition, he said 431 numbers used in prison have also been blocked, and 365 IMIEs have been blacklisted so far this year.
