The government has denied the allegations that the second phase of the Hulhumalé is being extended because there is no land to give to the people of the Malé city.

Speaking on the matter, Spokesperson Miuvan said discussions are underway to extend the land area of Hulhumalé but no decision has been taken on the matter. However he denied the allegations that the government is trying to extend the land area of Hulhumalé due to lack of land to provide housing for the people of the city.

Miuvan said the land needed for the current housing projects has already been identified, and that the government is not running out of land for it.

"The projects that have already been announced were announced after ensuring that the land is available," Miuvan said.

The President has already announced to allocate 5,000 plots of land for the people of the city. Out of which, 1,000 plots is expected to be offered from Hulhumalé, 2,000 plots from GulheeFalhu and 2,000 plots from Giraavaru falhu.
