The no-confidence motion of the Vice-President and MP for North Galolhu constituency Eva Abdulla has been accepted by People's Majlis.

The no-confidence motion against MP Eva was signed and submitted by 50 MDP MPs yesterday.

In response to the motion, the People's Majlis tweeted that it had received a no-confidence motion against the Vice-President of the People's Majlis, Eva Abdullah. The matter will be processed in accordance with the Constitution and the Rules of Procedure of the Parliament.

Eva, who has now left the MDP, had earlier said she would not resign from the post of Vice-Speaker of Parliament. However, she said she would not be in political shackles to defend her position.

The removal of the Speaker or Vice-Speaker of the House of Representatives may be moved by a resolution signed by not less than one-fourth of the total number of members of the House. A no-confidence motion against the Speaker or Vice-Speaker of Parliament shall be passed by a two-thirds majority of the members of Parliament. That’s 43 members. There are 55 MPs representing the MDP in Parliament.

Twelve MPs, who supported former president Mohamed Nasheed, including Vice-Speaker Eva, have left the MDP. The members have also applied to the Election Commission for permission to register a political party under the name of The Democrats.
