President of Maldives Reform Movement (MRM) Faris Maumoon questioned the numbers of members to be admitted to political parties.

MRM President Parris Maumoon questioned the Political Parties Act after the Election Commission decided to dissolve the party due to insufficient members.

The party is considering taking the matter to the High Court, he said at a press conference held yesterday.

Faris said there were unbelievable things in the election commission's decision to dissolve the party. He said he would file a case in court if they did not resolve the issues.

Faris said except for the 3000 members limit in the Political Party Act and considered for not receiving funds from the state budget unless they reach 10,000 members should be thought.

"Are these arbitrary figures, numbers really allowed by the Constitution? We are also discussing this to see if we can take the matter to the High Court or somewhere as a constitutional issue," he said.

The Election Commission decided to dissolve the MRM after issuing two notices.

The MRM and several other parties have already been dissolved due to insufficient membership.
