President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih highlighted on Monday the importance of incorporating environmental conservation and protection into our daily lives in light of the current global and environmental circumstances.

He made the remarks in a statement commemorating World Environment Day. Observed annually on June 5th, this year marks the 50th anniversary of the event.

Shedding light on the influence of human actions on the global environment and natural ecosystems, President Solih emphasised that, in the current era, our natural environment and ecological systems are facing unprecedented levels of degradation. He further expressed concern that these escalating threats and damages continue to intensify each year, posing a significant risk to the survival of humanity.

The President also highlighted the shared responsibility of individuals in safeguarding the environment from disorder and degradation and underscored the need for a particular focus on plastic products due to their significant environmental threat, affecting both the global community and the Maldives.

In conclusion, the President appealed to the public to take a proactive stance by ceasing the use of environmentally harmful plastic products. He advised individuals of all age groups, from the young to the elderly, to reject the use of plastic and embrace sustainable alternatives.
