With the increase of homeless people in Male’ City, Minister of Gender, Family and Social Services, Ms. Aishath Didi confirms resuming the temporary shelter services for the homeless people.
Meanwhile, many people are raising their concerns about the increased number of homeless people sleeping on the streets of Male’ City. Some have criticized the government authorities for the negligence.
Referring to the concerns, in a tweet, Minister Aishath Didi said that since April, the Ministry has attended to over 500 such people, given them temporary shelters and food, and worked with local councils and families to reintegrate them.
Minister Aishath Didi added that the work of temporary shelters came to a halt in August, but the temporary detox treatment continues to date in Male’ City.
Minister Aishath Didi confirmed that the Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services and the Home Ministry has resumed providing temporary shelters and will ensure that the people sleeping in markets and streets are attended to.
