President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has criticized the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) for its alleged lack of action in addressing the development needs of Male', despite holding a supermajority in both the government and parliament.

Speaking at the opening of the campaign booth for the ruling PPM/PNC candidate for the Machhangoalhi North constituency for the upcoming parliamentary elections, President Muizzu questioned the MDP's record in delivering on its promises for the development of Male' city.

According to President Muizzu, despite the MDP's dominance in the political landscape over the past five years, Male' has seen little progress in terms of infrastructure and housing development. He highlighted the failure of the MDP government to fulfill its pledges of providing land and housing to the residents of Male'.

President Muizzu further criticized the MDP's campaign promises during the 2018 presidential and 2019 parliamentary elections, accusing the party of making lofty commitments without delivering tangible results once in power. He emphasized that despite having control over parliament and other state institutions, the MDP government failed to address the pressing housing issues facing the capital city.

Asserting that the people of Male' have not seen meaningful improvements under MDP rule, President Muizzu cast doubt on the party's ability to fulfill its promises if granted a majority in the upcoming parliamentary elections. He urged voters to consider the MDP's track record and questioned the party's credibility in addressing the housing crisis in Male' if given another mandate.
