Government’s expenditure for Covid-19 goes up to 2.2 billion Maldivian Rufiya.

The Minister of Finance reported that as of 10th September, 996.8 million Maldivian Rufiya has been spent for economics and 1222.2 million Maldivian Rufiya has been spent on health and social well being.

The audit of the Ministry of Finance showed that the maximum expenditure for the pandemic is by the National Disaster Management authority (NDMA). NDMA only has spent a total of 772.4 million Maldivian Rufiya. Second to NDMA was the Ministry of Health, with an expenditure of 190.3 million Maldivian Rufiya.

Although the government has spent a lot for the pandemic, the audit report of NDMA and Ministry of Health shows the most wasteful spending. NDMA audit report also shows expenses made against the government guidelines, suspicious to special benefits for some people.
