President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has sent a message of congratulations to the new Prime Minister of Japan, Yoshihide Suga, who was formally elected to the office by the National Diet of Japan, today, 16 September.
Japan's parliament has elected Yoshihide Suga as the country's new prime minister, following the resignation of Shinzo Abe.
From the message to Mr Yoshihide Suga, President Ibrahim Solih highlighted the close bilateral relationship between Japan and the Maldives and deep links of the friendship between the two countries.
President also added that he looks forward to working closely with Mr Yoshihide Suga, expanding the enduring ties of friendship and cooperation between the Maldives and Japan, for mutual benefit.
Mr Suga has served for years as chief cabinet secretary, the most senior role in government after the prime minister.
