Gaza’s civil defense agency reported on Sunday that an Israeli air strike targeting a house in the Nuseirat refugee camp resulted in the deaths of at least 31 people. This update revises an earlier toll of 20 fatalities. According to Mahmud Bassal, a spokesman for the Gaza Civil Defense Agency, rescue workers have recovered the bodies and are continuing their search for missing individuals under the rubble.

The strike, which occurred around 3:00 am local time, targeted a house belonging to the Hassan family. The Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital confirmed that it had received the bodies of 20 victims earlier in the day, and the Palestinian official news agency Wafa reported that the wounded included several children.

The Israeli army, when contacted by AFP, asked for specific coordinates of the strike. The incident is part of a larger escalation in violence in Gaza, with fierce battles and heavy bombardments reported in the central Nuseirat camp since early May. Palestinian militants and Israeli troops have also been clashing in the Jabalia camp in northern Gaza for several days.

Witnesses reported that several other houses were targeted in air strikes across Gaza during the night, and parts of Rafah experienced strikes and artillery shelling. The Israeli military announced that two more soldiers were killed in Gaza the previous day, bringing the total number of Israeli soldiers killed since the start of the ground offensive on October 27 to 282.
