The Government of Maldives has reiterated its unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, as confirmed by Presidential Spokesperson Heena Waleed at a press conference today.
Addressing the media, Chief Spokesperson Heena Waleed emphasized that the Maldives remains one of the most vocal advocates for Palestinian rights within the international community. "Maldives is ready to take whatever steps are necessary for the sake of the Palestinian people," she asserted.
In his recent speech at the Small Island Developing States (SIDS) conference, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu also condemned the inhumane actions of Israel in Palestine, reinforcing the Maldives' longstanding position. "The government's stance on the Palestinian issue has not changed," Heena affirmed, responding to questions about the delay in banning Israeli passports.
The reaffirmation of support for Palestine comes amid criticism following a controversial statement by Ibrahim Falah, the leader of the ruling PNC parliamentary group. Falah characterized Israel's actions against Palestinians as an issue between two countries. He stated, "In the case of Israel, the issue is a very big foreign issue between two countries. The government will decide the issues in the most thoughtful way, in the best interest of the people and the country."
Despite these comments, Heena Waleed made it clear that the Maldives government remains steadfast in its support for Palestine and is committed to taking necessary measures to aid the Palestinian people.
