Addu City Mayor Ali Nizar has denounced the current government's inability to reform the policy governing the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO). Mayor Nizar's statement comes amid ongoing protests by fishermen in Addu City who are struggling with financial hardships due to unpaid dues.

Mayor Nizar expressed his disappointment with the lack of response from authorities to address the fishermen's grievances. He emphasized that despite repeated protests, the fishermen have yet to receive a satisfactory resolution from the government.

"It is disheartening for the fishermen that successive governments have failed to amend the flawed policy of running MIFCO, which has been criticized as a hotbed of corruption," Mayor Nizar lamented. He underscored the urgent need for the current administration to take decisive action to rectify the situation.

As a former member of Parliament, Mayor Nizar urged the government to heed the voices of the fishermen in Addu City and swiftly find a solution to the ongoing crisis. The fishermen continue to protest against the delay in payment of their dues, demanding immediate redress from the authorities.

The protests highlight the urgent need for comprehensive reforms within MIFCO to ensure transparency and accountability. Mayor Nizar's remarks underscore the pressing nature of the issue and the government's responsibility to address the concerns of the fishing community in Addu City.
