Gasim Ibrahim, Member of Parliament and Leader of the Jumhooree Party (JP) has voiced strong criticism against the current and previous governments for failing to fulfill campaign promises and effectively manage the economy. Speaking during the debate on the State Fiscal Responsibility Bill, Gasim emphasized the urgent need for President Dr. Muizzu to take decisive action to stabilize the country's financial situation.

Gasim, who also serves as the chairman of the Finance Committee of the Parliament, stressed that delaying necessary measures would jeopardize the country's future. He pointed out the dire consequences of inaction, noting that continued delays could result in severe financial difficulties.

Highlighting the negative impact of previous administrations, Gasim argued that the MDP government's negligence contributed significantly to the country's economic decline. He also warned against the potential harm of participating in international financial institution programs merely to fulfill election promises.

Gasim emphasized that no candidate who has ruled so far has fulfilled all their campaign promises, reflecting a broader trend of unfulfilled pledges by past leaders. He criticized the MDP government for misusing state-owned companies and failing to meet its fiscal responsibilities. Specifically, he mentioned the $200 million loan taken by the MDP government, which is set to expire in 2025, and argued that discussing it now is inappropriate.

He pointed out the misuse of state resources during election periods, illustrating how people were employed in state-owned companies without addressing more pressing economic issues.

While acknowledging the irreversible nature of past mistakes, Gasim called on all parties to work together to improve the country's future. He urged collaborative efforts to address the current economic challenges and ensure a stable and prosperous future for the nation.
