The ruling Progressive National Coalition (PNC) has denounced recent efforts to tarnish the reputation of Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed.

Last week, inappropriate videos falsely claiming to feature Shaheem were widely shared on social media. These videos, later confirmed to be "deep fake" fabrications, were intended to damage his standing.

The PNC issued a statement condemning these malicious attempts to undermine Shaheem, emphasizing his significant contributions as a respected religious leader. The party highlighted that Shaheem’s reputation is well-regarded across the Islamic world, with his services and achievements in Islamic affairs receiving widespread recognition.

In response to the situation, the opposition has also called for an end to such defamation. They stress that these actions are both unethical and harmful to Shaheem's distinguished career.

The PNC praised Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s unwavering support for Shaheem and his policies. "Dr. Muizzu’s manifesto attests to Shaheem’s success in managing the Ministry of Islamic Affairs," the statement read. The PNC reaffirmed Shaheem’s commitment to his role and his deep knowledge of religious matters, asserting that attempts to insult or falsely accuse him will not be tolerated.

The statement concluded by reinforcing that Shaheem remains a committed and respected political leader, dedicated to upholding the principles of his faith and ministry.
