Fishermen have formally requested the government to reduce oil prices, citing rising operational costs. The appeal was made during a meeting with the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources, which was held at the Naifaru council office and chaired by Minister Ahmed Shiyam.

During the meeting, Minister Shiyam updated the fishermen on various initiatives and projects by the Ministry. He provided information about the RSW (Refrigerated Sea Water) loan program, which is funded through the SDFC to aid in the installation of RSW systems on fishing boats. He also highlighted the benefits of the newly established fishermen's register, which was introduced as part of President Mohamed Muizzu’s commitment to enhance the welfare of the fishing community.

The fishermen expressed their concerns about the high cost of oil, which they say is impacting their livelihoods. They urged the Ministry to take action to reduce oil prices and alleviate the financial burden on those in the industry.

In addition to their request regarding oil prices, the fishermen shared other challenges they face with Minister Shiyam. The discussion focused on improving conditions and support for the fishing sector as part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to address industry needs and support the local economy.
