Israeli airstrikes on Gaza early Saturday resulted in the deaths of at least 13 Palestinians and left 15 others wounded, according to the Palestinian Authority’s news agency WAFA. The strikes targeted a school used as a shelter for refugees and a residential building.

WAFA reported that eight fatalities occurred at the Halima Al-Sa’diyya School in Jabalia, northern Gaza. The school was housing displaced families. The Israeli military stated that their strike was aimed at a Hamas command center that was reportedly located within the school’s premises.

In a separate attack, five Palestinians were killed when an Israeli airstrike hit a residential building in the Nuseirat refugee camp, located in central Gaza.

The latest violence is part of a broader conflict that began on October 7 of the previous year, when Hamas militants launched a major assault on Israel, killing 1,200 people and taking around 250 hostages, according to Israeli figures. Since then, Israeli operations in Gaza have resulted in over 40,800 Palestinian deaths, according to Gaza's health ministry.

The ongoing conflict has displaced nearly the entire population of Gaza, which numbers around 2.3 million people. The United Nations reports that approximately 1.9 million individuals are internally displaced, with many having been relocated multiple times.
