Home Minister Ali Ihusaan has revealed that more than 700 kilograms of drugs have been seized in the Maldives over the past 18 months as part of the government's ongoing anti-drug operations.
Speaking about the government's efforts to tackle drug smuggling and reduce substance abuse, Minister Ihsan said a total of 726 kg of narcotics had been confiscated. In addition, authorities seized 14,200 bottles of contraband alcohol.
The seized items have a combined street value of approximately MVR 1.4 billion, he said.
The minister noted that despite the growing challenges of drug use in the Maldives, the government's operations have delivered a significant blow to drug networks. He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to continue cracking down on drug trafficking and reducing import and distribution across the country.
