Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal has issued a strong appeal to the public, urging citizens to refrain from actions that could negatively impact the tourism sector in the Maldives.

During the 53rd anniversary celebration of the tourism industry in the Maldives, Minister Faisal emphasized the importance of protecting the country's vital tourism sector, which plays a crucial role in the nation's economy. He highlighted the potential consequences of any negative behavior on the industry, expressing concern that such actions could discourage potential visitors and ultimately harm the sector's growth.

The minister's remarks come in light of previous controversies that have threatened the Maldives’ tourism reputation. Earlier this year, three deputy ministers faced backlash for social media posts that were deemed insulting to India and its Prime Minister. This incident prompted an anti-campaign from the Indian tourism sector, leading to a significant drop in tourist arrivals from India and resulting in millions of dollars in losses for the Maldivian economy.

Relations between India and the Maldives deteriorated over the issue, and India pressured the government to remove the three deputy ministers involved in the controversy.
